UnitingCare Health is one of the largest not-for-profit private hospital groups in Queensland and is a service group of UnitingCare Queensland. The hospital group is a major provider of healthcare services which operates almost 1000 licensed hospital beds and employs over 4200 people.

 

Allied Health Metro is a newly established service, bringing together the existing Allied Health teams from The Wesley Hospital and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital into one clinical service, with a single management team.  The integration provides opportunities for innovation, efficiencies, growth in services and improved productivity. 

 

Allied Health Metro provides all Allied Health services (inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient) at both Hospitals.  Allied Health Metro comprises of support staff and health professionals from Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, Nursing and Psychology.

 

Reporting to the Head of Occupational Therapy, and based at the Wesley Hospital, the Occupational Therapist will be responsible for: 

  • Delivering high quality Occupational Therapy clinical services across a number of clinical areas in accordance with professional and ethical standards and UCH policies and procedures;
  • Managing a routine caseload, seeking assistance for high acuity or complex cases and demonstrating excellent time management and organisational skills;
  • Applying clinical judgment, knowledge and skills to Occupational Therapy tasks and decision making, commensurate with the required level of clinical experience;
  • Contributing to the development and/or review of clinical practices, procedures and protocols using best evidence and the principles of continuous quality improvement;
  • Applying up to date knowledge of the current evidence and contributing to clinical research activities which inform evidence based practice;
  • Actively contributing to the Allied Health Clinical Governance Framework by undertaking quality assurance activities as directed by the head of Occupational Therapy.

Ideally, the successful applicant will demonstrate the following criteria: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy;
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or appropriate professional body (where required) ;   
  • Demonstrated,12 months of relevant post graduate experience in a comparable (acute hospital or ambulatory service)  setting or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated  clinical knowledge, experience and skills in Occupational Therapy;
  • Experience in implementing evidence based clinical services;
  • Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety and clinical risk management;
  • Sound level of computer literacy in Microsoft application.
