• Senior Financial Accountant  
• 12 month contract

UnitingCare Queensland (UCQ) provides health and community services to thousands of people every day of the year through its service groups – UnitingCare Health, UnitingCare Community, Blue Care and ARRCS (Australian Regional and Remote Community Services). As the health and community service provider of the Uniting Church we have supported Queensland communities for over 100 years.  Our 15,000 staff and 9,000 volunteers care for and support people from all walks of life, including older people, people with a disability, children, families and Indigenous people. 

We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to provide technical accounting advice and to support the monthly and annual reporting processes, including preparation of financial statements and consolidation.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, responsibilities will include:

• Provision of technical accounting advice on complex transactions
• Development of accounting position papers, with well-considered business impacts, and accounting policy in relation to emerging issues
• Preparation of general purpose financial reports for the organisation in accordance with relevant regulations and standards
• Preparation for and coordination support for external audit activity, and key point of contact with auditors
• Support month end close processes, including analysis of results, preparation of inter-company reconciliations, consolidation activity and Balance Sheet reconciliations
• Proactively recommend and contribute to improvements to financial controls, processes and procedures
• Support the development of a framework for analysis and preparation for upcoming changes to accounting standards
• Preparation of briefings to the Audit and Risk Committee
• Maintain key internal and external stakeholder relationships
• Undertake contract reviews and recommend accounting treatment in line with Accounting standards
• Provide in-house technical training to finance team members regarding updates in Accounting Standards and industry changes

This role will suit a first time mover from Big 4 or mid-tier chartered accounting environment who has obtained appropriate experience to meet the expectations of the role.

The candidate must have the following:

• CA or CPA qualified
• Good understanding and recent practical application of Australian Accounting Standards
• Excellent communications skills are required, with the ability to maintain successful working relationships, both internal and external to the business
• Willing to be ‘hands on’ and solution focused
• Advanced Excel experience
• Strong research, interpretation and analysis skills
• Resilience and strong work ethic will help the successful candidate thrive in this role

The following skills are not mandatory, but desirable:

• Not-for-profit experience
• Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012
• Taxation experience, including preparation of FBT and BAS Returns
