Position Summary

UnitingCare Health (UCH) is one of the largest not-for-profit private hospital groups in Queensland and is a service group of UnitingCare Queensland. The hospital group is a major provider of healthcare services in Queensland which operates almost 1000 licensed hospital beds and employs over 4200 people.

 

With 524 beds, The Wesley Hospital provides tertiary level medical and surgical services across 30 specialty areas including cardiology, urology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, maternity and women’s health. These services are supported by an intensive care unit, coronary care unit, cardiac catheter theatres, 24-hour emergency centre, renal dialysis, radiology, radiation therapy, pathology, pharmacy services, IVF, haematology and oncology services.

  

Reporting to the General Manager- The Wesley Hospital, the Director of Medical Services (DMS) is responsible for the effective and efficient management of all medical services, including liaising with Visiting Medical Practitioners (VMPs), direct staff, budgetary management and achieving strategic objectives. Further, the DMS is responsible for the management of medical compliance issues, including clinical credentialing and adherence to UCH By-laws. 

 

Ideally, the successful applicant will demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Ability to provide leadership to the medical and other clinical areas within the hospital;
  • Ability to liaise and negotiate with Visiting Medical Practitioners and Medical Staff, balancing Hospital and clinical requirements;
  • Ability to manage a budget effectively;
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal) with particular ability to communicate and negotiate with Medical and Allied Health professionals and fellow Executive staff;
  • Ability to chair and facilitate meetings effectively;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute towards a strategic action plan, including development and monitoring of key performance indicators and change process;
  • Ability to initiate and conduct public relations activities to support Hospital objectives;
  • High level of skill in researching, analysing and interpreting health related data and trends.
