Position Summary

As a service arm of the Uniting Church in Queensland, UnitingCare Health provides professional and compassionate care to more than 109 000 patients each year through its private hospitals - The Wesley and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospitals in Brisbane, Buderim Private Hospital on the Sunshine Coast and St Stephen’s Hospital in Hervey Bay.

Our Opportunity:

 

We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Pastoral Care Manager to minister to the community of St Andrews War Memorial Hospital.

 

This is a significant opportunity to minister and care for the emotional, spiritual and religious needs of those engaged with the services of the hospital, as well as their carers, families and health care staff.  

 

You will represent UnitingCare QLD within the life of St Andrews War Memorial Hospital and: 

  • Contribute to the implementation of the Mission, and Shared Values of UnitingCare Health (Compassion, Respect, Justice, Working Together and leading through learning)
  • Be an integral part of the holistic team providing pastoral care and spiritual development to staff, patients and their families within the hospital and health service environment
  • On referral, visit patients, assess needs and provide compassionate care
  • Participate in and facilitate worship activities as appropriate
  • Provide support for staff within the scope of this position
  • Develop a volunteer base that strengthens the capacity of the provision of pastoral and spiritual care
  • Liaise with clergy and pastoral carers of other denominations or other religious and/or ethnic groups
  • Build relationships with local ministers and congregations

This opportunity is a full time placement offered with UnitingCare Queensland, as an agency of the Uniting Church in Queensland.

About You:  

 

You will have completed recognised theological training, including chaplaincy, with a commitment and understanding of the mission and ethos of the Uniting Church. Ideally, you will also present with broad experience in Clinical Pastoral Education.

 

You will have a solid understanding of the theology/philosophy of spiritual care, with highly developed communication skills. You will be confident in working effectively within an ecumenical, multi-faith, multi-disciplinary framework with sensitivity to the diversity of staff, patients and their families.

 

You will present with:

  • Experience within a health care setting, including knowledge of special issues and requirements including palliative care
  • Experience at setting and evaluating priorities including previous supervision and delegation of accountabilities to a team
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage conversations
  • Certificate IV in Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy or equivalent
  • Confidence with MS Office and other technology
